A Bronx father who was trying to save his sons from the Croton River ended up drowning himself.
Police say Carlos Cholco was out with his wife and two boys, ages 8 and 13, when the kids began struggling in the water and he went in to help.
The older boy was able to pull himself and his brother to safety. An off-duty Croton officer and his girlfriend were jogging nearby and rushed to help, but were unable to reach Cholco in time.
The sons are recovering at the hospital.
