The LGBT community in The Bronx is standing behind President Barack Obama after he made a historic, bold announcement supporting same-sex marriage.

While the announcement could be a game-changer for Obama's re-election campaign, many local residents say they're hoping it changes laws nationwide and believe it will bring in more votes.

Others disagree, including Bronx state Sen. Ruben Diaz, who has largely opposed marriage equality. Diaz said that aside from his personal views, he thinks Obama made a poor political move, giving Republicans an advantage.

Several other local politicians lent their support to the president, including Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, who went as far as to invite Obama to her wedding when she marries her partner this month. Obama voices his support for gay marriage
