About 60 children with diabetes and their parents enjoyed a free day at the Bronx Zoo, as the zoo and the Children's Hospital at Montefiore hosted a Diabetes Day.

The free day included full access to the facility and education from the hospital's staff. Doctors spoke to the children about controlling the disease, which experts say is prevalent in The Bronx because of a lack of healthy food choices and exercise.

The day ended with a barbecue filled with healthy food options.
