More than a month after high winds devastated parts of western Connecticut, communities are rebuilding while residents await federal aid.

Brookfield is among the areas hoping for FEMA to approve disaster reimbursement funding.

Officials say the funding could cover up to 75 percent of the total cleanup cost.

According to FEMA regulations, the first round of funding is to go toward clearing public roads. 

According to town officials, that means that if residents drag debris from their yards into the street they could jeopardize the application -- because FEMA rules prevent the mixing of private and public debris.

So they're asking residents in hard-hit neighborhoods like Mist Hill Drive to remain patient.

Residents can still use the town brush yard on Saturdays if they have a proper permit.

Officials say they hope to begin the residential cleanup about two weeks after they finish clearing the town right-of-way.
