To celebrate Brooklyn's rich diversity, hundreds made their way to Borough Hall Sunday for the first locally held International Day of Friendship.
The day was proclaimed in 2011 by the U.N. General Assembly with the idea that friendship between countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace and build bridges between communities.
Although only a few years old, officials with the borough president's office say the day has history that dates back to the early 19th century.
Officials say about 90 languages and 180 ethnicities are represented and present in the borough.
Borough President Eric Adams says residents can expect the celebration to be held again next year in Brooklyn, making it an annual tradition.
The parade, marched by people holding flags and some donning costumes, was concluded with a hand-holding ceremony, bringing everyone together.
