A Brownsville couple volunteered to prepare a Thanksgiving Day feast for hundreds of local residents who are struggling this holiday season.
Debbie and Luther Miller have been cooking non-stop since Tuesday, roasting 14 turkeys, baking 24 sweet-potato pies and preparing 60 pounds of potato salads for some 450 people who rely on the help of a neighborhood shelter.
The couple spent $100 of their own money and collected donations for a month to raise the $650 needed to pay for the meal.
The Millers say it was important for them to make sure that families in need have food on their table this holiday because they have lived in shelters for years and know what it is like to go hungry.
