A new statue showing Jackie Robinson and his teammate George Shuba is set to be unveiled next week.
The masterpiece shows the players giving each other "the handshake of the century," a moment shared after Robinson's first professional home run.
Mark Mellon and Bill Makky, of the Bedi-Makky Art Foundry Corporation in Brooklyn, say working on the piece hit home.
"The history of Brooklyn, everything that was done here and the history with Jackie being a part of Brooklyn history ... working with Mark my whole life. There is so much history and most of the job is built on tradition and history," Makky said.
The statue took two years to complete and will be unveiled next week in Shuba's hometown of Youngstown, Ohio, in a spot to encourage children of all backgrounds to come together and discuss social justice.
