A Brooklyn man says he was removed from a JetBlue flight for a situation he says was sparked by racism.
Shaun Lynda says he was leaving Barbados Thursday and heading to John F. Kennedy International Airport to spend time with his family for Thanksgiving.
He says after boarding the JetBlue plane and getting seated, he noticed a flight attendant upgraded a white family sitting nearby to first class.
He says when he asked why the family was able to upgrade, the flight attendant rudely told him she didn't need to explain herself to him.
Lynda says that when another flight attendant witnessed the situation, he allowed him to upgrade his seat as well, but shortly after, he was asked to move back to his original seat by the flight attendant he says was being rude to him.
He says that when he moved back to his original seat, the flight attendant who he says was being rude, came over to him, kneeled down, patted his leg and asked him if he was going to behave himself.
Lynda says he responded saying, "Why would I misbehave? I'm an educated man."
That's when Lynda says the flight attendant went to the captain and claimed that he called her uneducated.
Lynda says he was then removed from the flight and was unable to return home until Friday. He is calling on JetBlue to fix the situation.
JetBlue offered him a $100 voucher, but Lynda says the situation could have been handled better.
News 12 reached out to JetBlue and is waiting to hear back.
