An artist in Crown Heights is taking his skills and craft of beading to a new level. Larry Brown makes unique beaded pieces including watches, earrings and necklaces in his Brooklyn home. He calls it ancestral beading.
Brown says the idea came to him in a dream 32 years ago. Since then, he has made various unique pieces inspired by African and Native American art. He says the cultures motivate his work, but he puts his own artistic spin on each hand-made piece, artwork and jewelry.
Brown says his work has also been used in movies.
