The Brooklyn Academy of Music showcased a special screening of the new film "Brooklyn" at the Peter Jay Sharp building last night.

Many iconic films take place in the backdrop of Brooklyn and some are even about the borough itself.

This critically acclaimed movie is looking to become the next Brooklyn classic. 

"Brooklyn" tells the story of Eilis Lacey, a young Irish immigrant in 1950s Brooklyn who falls in love and must choose between her native Ireland or new-found home in the borough. 

Moviegoers say they were on the edge of their seat for the entire film 

According to movie review site Rotten Tomatoes, "Brooklyn" has a 99 percent rating.

"Brooklyn" opens officially in theaters Friday.
