Residents throughout Brooklyn searched for ways to cool off Thursday as temperatures topped 90 degrees.
In Red Hook, many braved the scorcher with the help of some ice cream. Others, such as Anna Marie Cruz, had the unenviable task of waiting for a bus under the sun.
"Very, very hot - too hot," she says. "It's muggy, I'm wet. Not enough ? breeze."
More than 1,400 people went to a local pool in Red Hook to cool off.
"Very hot today and I'm glad we have a pool so close to us," says Benny Ruiz.
Ruiz says he is using the heat to his advantage as he left the pool with his five foster children.
"Take a couple of hours, let them cool off for a while, get them tired ? let them take a nap," he says.
Hitting the pool might be a very popular idea in the coming days as temperatures are expected to soar into the 90s through the weekend.
