Many Brooklyn residents marched for the ocean Saturday along the Coney Island boardwalk as part of the World Ocean’s Day festivities.

The event was hosted by the New York Aquarium and seeks to raise awareness about plastic pollution in the world’s waters.

Many guests were dressed in “trashion'” costumes in support of the cause.

"We are holding a trashion where people can repurpose plastic waste into some very interesting fashion statements,” says New York Acquarium Director Jon Forrest. “But it is really for a cause. These are simple sort of changes we can make it our own behavior around single-use plastic, and in doing so, we are really able to save wildlife here in New York.”

 The March for the Ocean is part of the Association of Zoos’ and aquarium's Party for the Planet annual celebration.
