Brooklyn residents can expect to pay even more to heat their homes as Con Edison plans to increase the price of electricity.
Residents can expect the price of electricity for their home to go up by 36 percent this month, according to the New York Post. Aside from the high demand for electricity in this cold weather, a Con Edison spokesman says prices are driven up by the unstable natural gas market caused by Hurricane Katrina. The spokesman adds that prices will probably continue to rise throughout this year.
Brooklyn residents living in larger, suburban style homes can expect an even bigger electricity rate hike. Their bill could go up by as much as $43 each month.
