The polls are open and voters are casting their ballots in the congressional primaries today.
One of the hottest races in the state is focused right in Brooklyn as city Councilman Charles Barron and state Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries make a run for Congress in the 8th District. Both Democrats have campaigned heavily in recent weeks.
In other races, Rep. Nydia Velazquez is trying to hold onto her seat for an 11th term. Velzquez is up against Daniel J. O'Conner, George Martinez and City Councilman Erik Martin Dilan.
In the newly formed 9th Congressional District, incumbent Yvette Clark is being challenged by Sylvia Kinard.
For the U.S. Senate, Republicans Wendy Long, Congressman Bob Turner and George Maragos are all vying for the spot to compete against incumbent Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand come November.
The polls will be open throughout the borough until 9 p.m.
