A Brownsville family shelter hosted a special day of pampering and leisure as part of an early Mother’s Day event Saturday.
Children decorated flower plots and picture frames while moms were able to have their nails done and makeup for free.
Families could also enjoy food, music, yoga and more.
“I can put all the responsibility away for a little while and just be free,” says mother Maria Alvarez. She spends a significant amount of her time caring for her husband, who is recovering from a heart attack, and her son, who has muscular dystrophy.
This year marks the fourth annual Mother's Day celebration at the shelter.
