Bronx residents are divided over a proposal put forth by state Sen. Eric Adams to give stun guns to some transit workers, like bus and subway operators.

While some commuters say it could create a dangerous situation where a bus driver who's having a bad day could Taser someone without any reason, others say the drivers should be able to protect themselves.

Numbers from the Transit Workers' Union (TWU) show hotspots for physical assaults against Bronx bus drivers are at the corners of Webster Avenue and Fordham Road, Fordham Road and Third Avenue, and Tremont and Webster avenues.

The TWU says between 2010 and 2011, bus operators were most often assaulted on the Bx41, 9 and 36 lines.

The Bronx division chair for the TWU says while physical attacks are up, the number of times bus drivers are spat at is up 5 percent, and the number of times they're verbally assaulted is up 10 percent.
