Neighbors in Canarsie say piles of garbage are causing major problems in their day-to-day life.
Tenants at the Breukelen Houses say garbage is continuously piling up on their sidewalks and behind their buildings.
They say they have been reaching out to the New York City Housing Authority for months to inquire about the lack of cleanup, but have not seen much action.
Neighbors complain of mice, toxins and foul smells.
"It makes me feel humiliated, disrespected and violated," says resident Calvin Drumgo.
New 12 reached out to the city's Department of Sanitation and was told that workers are not supposed to collect bags left curbside. It says it's an issue it has discussed regularly with NYCHA.
A NYCHA spokesperson tells News 12 this particular waste is related to delays from the holiday season.
They also say increased pick-up has been scheduled at the complex.
