A woman walking on Atlantic Avenue between Elder Lane and Grant Avenue died Monday afternoon.
Witnesses say the 70-year-old victim was trying to cross near the median when she stopped and motioned for a car to pass.
They say she was then struck. The driver remained at the scene and called for help.
Officials say the woman was pronounced dead at Brookdale Hospital.
An investigation is ongoing. It's unclear whether the driver will face any charges.
