Carjacker remains on the loose following altercation in Garfield

Authorities say that a suspected carjacker is on the loose after an incident in Garfield.
Police say that the attack happened on Herman Street on Dec. 27. The victim had parked her Mercedes in front of a home when the suspect hit her over the head with a gun.
Police say that the victim fell and the suspect took her keys. When the victim’s husband heard her screaming, he came outside and tried to stop the carjacker.
“The guy just came out over there, so I grabbed him and tried to pull him down and grab him by the throat,” said Mariusz Milewski. “He just got the gun next to my head and as soon as I moved the head he pulled the trigger."
The bullet missed and the suspect ran away. Milewski suffered temporary deafness and ringing in his ear. His wife was taken to the hospital for treatment but has since returned home.
Police say that the victim was randomly targeted because she had a high-end Mercedes.
The suspect is described as a black man, approximately 5 feet, 9 inches tall with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored mask or hooded sweatshirt.
