Citi Bike launched its dockless bicycles program less than a week ago, and one community member has already found a bike in poor condition.
Pictures from a News 12 viewer show a Citi Bike that appears to have been tossed on a patch of littered grass near Olmstead Avenue and Unionport Road.
The News 12 viewer says the bike was laying on its side for hours until someone picked it up.
Citi Bike brought 200 dockless bikes to Fordham, East Tremont and Belmont. Using a smartphone, the Citi Bike app and $2, residents can take a ride on the dockless bicycles.
Officials say this is part of a trial program in which the city is testing how well bike-sharing services will work in the Bronx.
In a statement, the city's Department of Transportation said, "During the pilot, the D.O.T will carefully evaluate companies' compliance with requirements around data accessibility and user privacy. Evaluation criteria will also include the safety, availability and durability of the bikes themselves. Based on company performances, we will make a determination on future steps."
It is possible that wind or some other factor may have led to the bike tipping over.
