Citi Bike says it's pulling about 1,000 bikes from the street to inspect them for a defective part.
The company says the newer fleet of bikes have a part that seems to be wearing down faster than expected.
For safety reasons, the company says it is speeding up the maintenance of the bikes.
The ones in question are locked in their station docks until they will be taken in for inspection by a company official.
The bikes will be returned after they pass inspection.
Citi Bike says the process could take a few weeks.
