City first lady Chirlane McCray announced millions of dollars in grants Friday to aid New Yorkers with mental illnesses.
"One in five New Yorkers is likely to experience a mental health disorder in any one given year," said Gabrielle Fialkroff, of the mayor's Office of Strategic Partnerships, at a news conference to announce the grants.
The money will go to 14 community organizations in the city.
Health care providers will train staff members at each of the organizations in the next few months.
Social workers say the money will help them address issues like depression, anxiety and PTSD.
The grants are expected to pay for training for 1,000 staff members and benefit 40,000 people across the city.
