Officials with the city's Administration of Children's Services say a $62 million budget gap will force them to discontinue day care for about 3,000 children.
The cuts would affect a day care center in Bay Ridge that cares for some children until 6 p.m. Ken Akins, whose son attends the day care, says the news is worrisome.
"If he goes to public school, it gets out at 2:40 [p.m.], who will be able to pick him up?" he asks.
The Department of Education says it is working to make sure all impacted students have placement next year. They say in cases in which certain schools are full, the students will be placed in nearby schools with available seats.
