The city created a new historic district in Bed-Stuy Tuesday, designating hundreds of buildings as landmarks.
Among the buildings are three houses designed by Montrose Morris in 1889, which combine the Queen Anne and Romanesque revival styles that were popular between 1870 and 1900, according to experts.
The new designations will require homeowners and landlords of more than 800 buildings to follow official advice when making repairs or repainting.
Bed-Stuy resident Claudette Brady applauded the move.
She says that developers have built cheap, ugly buildings in the neighborhood, damaging the aesthetic.
The new rules will preserve the historic architecture and establish a standard for the neighborhood.
