City officials say they are considering different ways to protect bus drivers after the fatal stabbing of driver Edwin Thomas earlier this month.

The extra protection would include partitions and emergency buttons. The city agency says bus partitions will be tested in some of the buses out of the Flatbush depot, where Thomas worked. The partitions would keep the driver isolated from passengers and ideally protect him or her from any violence.

The city agency is also considering installing emergency buttons, which would link the buses to 911.

Bus partitions are already being tested, or used, in other major cities, including Chicago, Washington and Baltimore.
