? Brooklyn residents and businesses near Atlantic Avenue and Boerum Place are concerned about a jail reopening there.
The jail was closed several years ago, but corrections officials are considering reopening it due to the growing prison population. Business owners do not want to see it reopen because they say customers don?t want to shop near a jail. Residents also worry about the criminal element impacting the neighborhood, while others say the building is an eyesore.
Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz says the borough has no choice when the prison population continues to increase.
