A Co-op City apartment complex has landed in the dog house over a strict policy against pets.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) fined the RiverBay Corporation $85,000 for failure to make accommodations to residents who need pets for health reasons, which it says is in direct violation of federal law.
A lawyer for the company says it adopted a new policy in December that has led to more pet requests being granted, including emotional support dogs for the clinically depressed.
