The New York City Pride Parade kicks off Sunday and for the first time, World Pride is also being celebrated in New York City.

The event comes two days after the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots.

Thousands are expected to attend the parade, which passes the Stonewall Inn -- where the 1969 riots happened. The LGBTQ community fought back against NYPD officers who raided the Greenwich Village bar. The uprising is viewed as the catalyst for the gay rights movement.

A moment of silence will be held for LGBTQ community members who have lost their lives to hate crimes, AIDS and AIDS-related complications.

The parade ends in Chelsea near 23rd Street and Seventh Avenue.

In Brooklyn, Flatbush Avenue between Lafayette Avenue and Sixth Avenue and Atlantic Avenue between Third Avenue and Sixth Avenue will be closed for the celebrations.

L trains will be running every four to five minutes to make it easier to get to and from the parade.
