Members of the Bed-Stuy community rallied to save the Slave Theater, which was sold to a developer in December.
Those who rallied say the developer, Fulton Halsey LLC, plans to demolish the property. Residents are questioning the legality of the contract between the property owner and developer.
"You know what's been happening in our community is really a travesty how these developers have come in and just really circumvented the system to try to take property away from us that belongs to our community," says Johnny Howard, of Bed-Stuy.
Residents who grew up in Bed-Stuy say it would be a shame to see the theater bulldozed.
