A City Council member is demanding that the Department of Transportation fix what many call a dangerous intersection in Borough Park.

News 12 spoke with nearly a dozen neighbors around the intersection of 18th Avenue and 56th Street, and they all agreed the intersection needs a traffic signal of some kind. Many of them said they'd witnessed near-catastrophe -- one woman even told News 12 that she saved two children from an oncoming car.

Councilman David Greenfield wants either a stoplight or stop sign to slow down drivers.

In the northbound lane, there is no traffic signal for three blocks, a stretch of uninterrupted driving that the lawmaker and neighbors fear leads to excessive speeding and potential disaster.

They also point to the recent reopening of Gravesend Park, which led to more children walking in the area.
