A Coney Island staple, Major Prime Meat Market, is nearing the end of a long run.
The Mermaid Avenue butcher shop, which has been in business for nearly 60 years, is closing at the end of the month. Jimmy Prince, who's been slicing meats for customers every year the shop has been open, is retiring and no one will be taking his place.
"The ride has been an exciting ride," Prince says. "I couldn't have asked for more, and I don't think I could've put more into it."
Prince says the rough economy and a desire to spend more time with his wife and family spurred his decision. But Prince says he'll miss his customers.
"I only wish [them] the best, from the bottom of my heart," he says.
