City officials listened to public comments Monday on a proposal to create a new 27-acre amusement and entertainment district along the Coney Island Boardwalk.

The city says the plan would create new parks, affordable housing and about 2,000 jobs, but some area businesses are resisting the proposal.

Some local stakeholders say they have a problem with the city's plan to take control of property using eminent domain.

The city says it plans to use that provision to take over beachfront lots near Luna Park.

The lots are mostly vacant, but a few property owners say their land is very much in use and the plan will destroy their businesses.

The Parks Department says it will continue to take public comments on the issue until the end of the month and will issue a final judgment on the plan sometime after that.
