Gorilla Nems has been rapping and selling his merchandise for years, but once his viral phrase “Bing Bong” caught attention on TikTok, he used that momentum to open his first clothing store.  

Nems says that he was shocked to find out his phrase went viral. Everyone in his Coney Island neighborhood was saying it, but he says once TikTok caught wind of it, his career took off. 

"The whole existence of Coney Island we never had a rapper really come out of here. I love representing coney island. It's like the forgotten part of Brooklyn,” said Nems. “That type of viralness you can't pay for it if it’s meant to happen it’s going to happen." 

The FYL Store on Mermaid Avenue is right in the heart of where it all started for Gorilla Nems, and while those in the community call him the Mayor of Coney Island, he wants everyone to remember his catchphrase as something that made a difference for his neighborhood.
