Coney Island residents sickened by ongoing bloodshed in the area rallied Saturday to halt violence in the neighborhood.
More than 100 people attended the afternoon rally, which organizers say is a first step. They're also planning educational initiatives and community partnerships.
A spike in shootings hit Coney Island recently, and in the last two weeks, five people have been shot, including one police officer. Some residents fear warm weather will only worsen the situation.
