Officials say a construction worker died after falling off a scaffold at 789 St. Marks Ave. Monday.
Fire Department spokesman Chris Villarroel says the 50-year-old worker fell at about 2:25 p.m. He was taken to Kings County Hospital.
Some local residents say that around 2:30 p.m., they heard a loud snapping sound when the wooden platform on which the man was standing broke.
Witnesses say the platform was hung by two ropes that clung to the roof, and the railing of the platform appeared to be makeshift - nothing more than a wooden board.
According to neighbors, the man has been washing the bricks of the house with other workers for the past three weeks.
