City Councilman Ritchie Torres unveiled a new service initiative that aims to help clean up the community.

The effort is specifically offered to help seniors and disabled Bronx residents clear snow, but also to assist them in picking up litter, getting rid of graffiti and maintaining vacant lots.

Torres says the $120,000 investment is meant to lay the foundation for a cleaner and safer Bronx, adding that it's a "down payment' on a vision for a better community.

The funding has been allocated for the Wildcats group, part of the nonprofit organization Fedcap. They help in creating opportunities through jobs and solutions for people with barriers to economic well-being.

Torres says the program will also help residents feel safer.

"We want the residents of the Bronx to feel safe and the presence of abandonment and blight garbage and graffiti undermine and threaten the feeling of safety among the Bronx residents," he says.
