Neighbors are voicing concerns about missing crosswalks on a busy avenue in Morris Park.
There are several unmarked crosswalks along Morris Park Avenue between White Plains Road and Bronxdale Avenue.
The problem began when the Department of Transportation pitched its "road diet" plan to tightly control traffic -- it would have taken away a driving lane on both sides of Morris Park Avenue. But as News 12 has reported, residents weren't on board with the proposed changes and a temporary restraining order to block the move was imposed, stopping the DOT's plan in its tracks.
But paving had already started, covering some of the crosswalks -- and leaving neighbors concerned. It's now been more than two months since the crosswalks were covered.
News 12 reached out to the DOT, which said in response, "By filing the temporary restraining order, the petitioners have stopped DOT from enhancing the safety of the corridor. We will fight this in court and expect to prevail."
Councilman Mark Gjonaj says the missing crosswalk is making life for pedestrians difficult -- and dangerous. He had the NYPD install a temporary sign to protect pedestrians.
Gjonaj says he sent a letter to the city's law department demanding that the road markings be restored.
