Crews are still trying to fix a sinkhole that opened up in Sunset Park along 56th Street on Tuesday.
The Department of Environmental Protection has told News 12 that a leak in private service lines to two buildings essentially led to the roadway opening up on 56th Street between 5th and 6th avenues.
The Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Transportation will fix the roadway, but it will be up to the building owners to repair the leaking lines.
Water has been shut off to several buildings as crews work to make the repairs.
No one was hurt, but 56th Street between 5th and 6th avenues remains closed.
