A Crown Heights library that shut its doors last summer for renovations is up and running once again.

The Eastern Parkway Library Branch welcomed visitors Monday for the first time in seven months.

The library got an $865,000 facelift, with $500,000 coming from city Councilwoman Laurie Cumbo's office.

"We were able to redo the roof," Cumbo says. "We were able to make some capital improvements in terms of expanded and increased lighting, new furniture, fixtures, new books."

The library has been in Crown Heights for 102 years and was last renovated in 1975.

Library officials say a lot of work still needs to be done and an additional $7 million is needed for it.

"We need a new HVAC system and a boiler," says Linda Johnson. "In a building of this age, where you don't necessarily know what you're going to find when you go into the walls, you know it's very costly."
