Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Monday announced a $27 billion plan to renew and expand the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Speaking from the New York Transit Museum, the governor said the new improvements coming for straphangers include better technology, more security and larger trains. Subway cars will have wider doors to help ease congestion and will be linked together, forming one long train.

The new stations will feature Wi-Fi, USB chargers and much more. Thirty-one stations around the city are scheduled for the major upgrades and will be closed for six months once the work commences.

The MTA this week will begin the process of making over the first three stations in Brooklyn: the Prospect Avenue, 53rd Street and Bay Ridge Avenue stations.
