A Danbury grandmother arrested in connection to the death of her 1-year-old grandchild appeared before a judge Thursday.

Cora Brandon, 60, is charged with first-degree manslaughter, five counts of risk of injury to a minor and possession of a controlled substance.

Police say on May 17, they were called to Danbury Hospital for the untimely death of a 1-year-old child.

They say the circumstances surrounding the death appeared to be suspicious.

Based on their investigation, police say they found the baby's grandmother, Brandon, to be complicit in his death.

An arrest warrant was obtained, and Brandon was taken into custody Wednesday.

She is being held on $500,000 bond.
