A young refugee from Darfur was reunited with her parents in Brooklyn Tuesday after nearly three years apart.

Four-year-old Wesal Adam arrived in New York after living in a Darfur refugee camp for years. Wesal?s father, Motasim Adam, and mother, Wejdan Adam, were granted asylum in the United States and now live in Brooklyn. However, a loophole in the law prevented their daughter from joining them.

According to Motasim Adam, who hadn?t seen his daughter since she was 9 months old, his asylum application was approved before Wesal was born. That prevented the baby from joining him in America.

A team of lawyers worked pro bono with the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society to bring Wesal to the United States.
