A community school director at P.S. 48 in Hunts Point was ordered held Friday after being arrested for allegedly attempting to meet a teenage boy for sex.
Jason Seto, 41, of Astoria, Queens was charged with enticing a minor to engage in sexual activity.
In a criminal complaint, a detective says that he pretended to be a 14-year-old boy when he was contacted by the defendant on a dating app. The conversation then made its way to another app — Telegram.
The detective adds Seto suggested it was a better app to use because it's encrypted. According to the complaint, Seto made comments about wanting to engage in sexual activity with the minor and watch child pornography together.
The communication went on for two weeks before they made plans to meet at the Five Guys restaurant in LaGuardia Airport where he was arrested.
A United Federation of Teachers spokesman said in a statement that Seto has been suspended without pay.
The city’s Department of Education also issued a statement, saying, "Mr. Seto was immediately suspended from his role when we were made aware of these deeply disturbing allegations. He is not a DOE employee and will remain suspended pending the outcome of this case."
Seto’s defense attorney told News 12 that his policy for clients is and always will be “no comment.”
A bail hearing is set for Wednesday.
