De Blasio questioned over campaign contributions
Activists opposed to big-money development projects around the city rallied outside Mayor Bill de Blasio's office Wednesday.
They said they were there to call attention to possible pay-for-play schemes as federal investigators have placed the mayor's administration under scrutiny for fundraising issues.
Both federal and city prosecutors are looking into the de Blasio administration's fundraising tactics. The probes have already led to subpoenas for three of the mayor's top aides.
Community groups say they want a more thorough investigation into any possible pay-to-play schemes involving the mayor and developers who had business with the city.
One such group is Save the View Now, headed by Steven Gutterman.
Gutterman says his group is locked in a legal battle with the developers behind a proposed Pierhouse development at Brooklyn Bridge Park. Gutterman says the project is blocking the view of the bridge from the promenade.
De Blasio has received donations from the developers, and Gutterman says the mayor has control of the Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation, which is overseeing the project.
"He's the only effective member and controls the entire board of the park and the agenda of the park," Gutterman says.
De Blasio's office did not immediately respond to a News 12 request for comment.
