? Deliberations began Wednesday in the trial of Nixzaliz Santiago, who is accused of standing by as her husband beat her 7-year-old daughter to death.
Jurors asked to see a videotaped statement made to police by Santiago. They also asked to hear a 911 call Santiago made after the beating and to see photos of Nixzmary Brown?s injuries.
?We have to trust entirely in our jury, which we do,? says Kathleen Mullin, the defense attorney for Santiago.
Santiago is charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter in the January 2006 death of Nixzmary. Defense attorneys have tried to portray Santiago as a concerned mother who tried to stop the abuse. Prosecutors say she was a callous woman who allowed and encouraged the deadly assault.
Nixzmary's stepfather, Cesar Rodriguez, was convicted of manslaughter earlier this year for delivering the fatal blow. He is serving 29 years in prison.
