The demand for service dogs is creating a spike in costs and long waits for those who need them.
Service dogs help people with ailments from autism to epilepsy, Alzheimer's, and PTSD.
But the demand is driving costs because there are not enough service dogs.
Some organizations charge up to $40,000 for a fully trained service dog, which they have bred, raised, and trained for a year and a half.
Other trainers are less expensive but have long wait lists or won't place dogs with young children.
