The Department of Education says a teacher and some students at Holcombe L. Rucker School of Community Research who took a trip to New Orleans came back with scabies.
A letter from the school's principal to parents says: "Itch mites are not a sign of poor hygiene and anyone can get them. Itch mites do not transmit infections and do not endanger a person's health."
The DOE claims there was evidence of scabies at the school after several of the students returned and before they sought medical attention.
