The Department of Education (DOE) has released the names of eight teachers and school aides who it says were not adequately disciplined for their alleged misconduct with students.

Former Hostos-Lincoln Academy of Science teacher Jonathan Polayes is among those school workers. Special Commissioner of Investigation Richard Condon found Polayes guilty of inappropriately touching several female students and recommended that he be dismissed, but Polayes was reassigned.

Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott is promising to make sure the teachers never work in schools again and says he's taking new steps to keep students safe, including a disciplinary support unit.

President of the United Federation of Teachers (UFT) Michael Mulgrew said in a statement, "If the DOE had properly investigated these cases and where appropriate, brought charges, the chancellor wouldn't be in damage control mode right now."
