The Puerto Rican community is gathering to demand answers about the removal of the ‘Avenue of Puerto Rico’ sign from Williamsburg street.

Following its removal last week, the City Department of Transportation received many heated phone calls from community members and elected leaders like Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso.

One neighbor told News 12 that she witnessed the sign being taken down as she passed by that day.

"We just felt disrespected, we were confused as to why. It's been up for as long as I've been alive,” said Tara Lynn Lozada.

The sign has since been put back up. The agency also made a post on Twitter claiming that removing the sign was a mistake and thanked the community for bringing the issue to their attention. However, there is still no word as to why it was removed in the first place.
