The city's Department of Transportation met with concerned residents Wednesday night to discuss ways to make one of the borough's busiest intersections safer.
The meeting at the Third Avenue YMCA tackled ways to improve the intersection of Atlantic and Flatbush avenues. It's a high-volume intersection where Atlantic Terminal meets the Barclays Center.
Potential street designs were proposed and discussed. They include adding more street lights and assigning better walkways for pedestrians and cyclists.
The DOT says the meeting is the first step toward cutting down accidents at the intersection. There were 347 reported collisions there since 2008. Five of them were deadly.
The DOT adds that the planning project is ongoing and no budget has yet been put in place. It hopes to have a plan within the beginning of 2017.
